Women's Young Hammer of the Year award

Shekiera Martinez wins 2024/25 women's team Young Hammer of the Year

Shekiera Martinez has been voted West Ham United women’s team Young Hammer of the Year!

After spending the first half of the 2024/25 season on loan at German outfit SC Freiburg, allowing her to accumulate the necessary points to meet the Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) criteria for international player visas, the No19 has been instrumental since returning to Chadwell Heath in January.

With a stunning ten goals in eleven Barclays Women’s Super League matches, the 23-year-old has certainly thrived in Claret and Blue, and her performances have been recognised by the West Ham faithful.

After scoring on her first WSL start, against Everton on Sunday 26 January with a bullet header, the Germany U23 international then found the back of the net in back-to-back matches, against Brighton & Hove Albion and Arsenal.

She then notched a momentous brace against Chelsea before becoming the first-ever West Ham player to win a WSL Player of the Month award, clinching the accolade in March.

More recently, Martinez made more history as she scored four goals in the women’s team’s biggest-ever WSL victory - a 7-1 rout against Crystal Palace at the VBS Community Stadium - becoming the first Hammer to notch a top flight four-goal haul.

Everyone at West Ham United would like to congratulate Shekiera on winning the 2024/25 women’s team's Young Hammer of the Year award.
