On this day in 2000, Frédéric Kanouté joined the Hammers on an initial three-month loan deal from French club Olympique Lyonnais!
With the deal later made permanent in May 2000, the Mali international went on to plunder 33 goals in 92 appearances in Claret & Blue, and was an undoubted loan star for the Irons.
