The Claret and Blue Army were out in full force in Prague at the West Ham United Fan Meeting Point ahead of kick-off in the UEFA Europa Conference League final.

Thousands of supporters loudly and proudly showed their love for the Irons as they soaked up the pre-match atmosphere and enjoyed entertainment on the big stage prior to Wednesday’s final with ACF Fiorentina.

DJ Tony Perry kept the audience signing and dancing while matchday host Chris Scull interviewed legendary goalkeeper Luděk Mikloško on stage, with the former shot-stopper visibly moved by the powerful rendition of the chant in his honour by the Claret and Blue Army in attendance.

Lifelong West Ham fan Chesney Hawkes capped off a beautiful afternoon in the Czechia sun as he and his family played a selection of fan favourites, singalong songs and his biggest hits.

There is something so very special about this Club and about the fans too. I’m just so proud that I’m part of this family and to play for them here, before the final, is so special

“This is an incredible special day for so many reasons for me,” Hawkes told whufc.com. “As a massive West Ham fan, I’ve been waiting my whole life for us to win a final. I was there for the 2006 FA Cup and I was only five when we last got to a European final. So this is incredible. Prague is a beautiful city and, to be here with these amazing fans, it’s incredibly special. There’s something special in the air as well.

“I’m here with my family too, which only makes it more special. My son is on stage with me, playing guitar. My brother is on the drums and my best mate is around too, and he’s a massive Hammer as well. I’m in heaven.”

Hawkes was delighted to lead the pre-match entertainment for the Irons’ first European final since 1976.

He continued: “I’m the wingman for the squad! But I wouldn’t put me out on the wing tonight! We’ll leave that side of things to Jarrod Bowen and the other lads.”

As supporters began to make their way over to the Eden Arena for kick-off with ACF Fiorentina, Hawkes could not contain his pride at being asked to be involved in the biggest fixture in the Club’s recent history.

“West Ham is a family, a community and a tribe,” he added. “Just walking around town, the love I’ve got from other West Ham fans has been wonderful. We’re all the same; we’re one family out here, cheering the boys on.

“There is something so very special about this Club and about the fans too. I’m just so proud that I’m part of this family and to play for them here, before the final, is so special.”
