Nuno confirms addition of Rui Barbosa to backroom team

Head Coach Nuno Espírito Santo has confirmed that his long-time assistant Rui Barbosa has joined the Club as First-Team Goalkeeping Coach.

Barbosa, a Portuguese native who represented the likes of Rio Ave and Nacional in his homeland during his playing career, has previously worked with Nuno as a goalkeeping coach at Rio Ave, Porto, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Tottenham Hotspur, Al-Ittihad and, most recently, Nottingham Forest.

He will now take his place within the goalkeeping department at West Ham United and work closely with Goalkeeping Coach Billy Lepine, who was promoted to the senior set-up alongside fellow Academy coaches Mark Robson, Steve Potts and Gerard Prenderville earlier this month.

Speaking during his press conference in the lead-up to Sunday's Premier League clash with Newcastle United, Nuno expressed his delight at Barbosa's arrival.

He said: "I think he can help us. He has a lot of experience, and he has worked with me for many years.

"I think he can work well with Billy and the goalkeepers we have here, and help us improve as a team."

Everyone at West Ham United would like to welcome Rui to the Club and wish him every success in east London.
