Match Officials confirmed for Brighton & Hove Albion match

Referee: Sam Barrott
Assistant Referees: Marc Perry and Nick Hopton
Fourth Official: John Brooks
VAR: Rob Jones
Assistant VAR: Tim Wood

Sam Barrott will take charge of his second West Ham United Premier League match of the campaign when the Irons welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to London Stadium.

Barrott has been selected as the man in the middle for the Hammers’ first match of 2024, having refereed the Irons’ 2-1 win away at Burnley at the end of November.

The 30-year-old also previously worked as the fourth official for West Ham’s 3-1 win over Arsenal in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

Barrott took charge of his first Premier League match back in October, as Fulham beat Sheffield United 3-1 at Craven Cottage, and has refereed eight top flight games so far this season.

The official also has a major final under his belt, refereeing the 2022 FA Vase Final between Littlehampton Town and Newport Pagnell Town.

Barrott will be assisted at London Stadium by Marc Perry and Nick Hopton

Perry was, along with Barrott, also part of the officiating team in West Ham’s win at Turf Moor. He has been a Premier League level assistant referee since the 2013/14 campaign and also ran the line in the 2021/22 EFL Championship Play-Off final between Nottingham Forest and Huddersfield Town, and the 2020 Community Shield between Arsenal and Liverpool.

Hopton, meanwhile, has run the line at 14 Premier League games so far this campaign, having been a top flight assistant referee since the 2017/18 season. He also worked the 2022 Community Shield between Liverpool and Manchester City.

John Brooks will be the Fourth Official. Brooks, who has been a member of the Select Group 1 of referees since June 2021, was the referee for West Ham United’s 3-1 win over Chelsea in August; one of eleven Premier League matches he has officiated so far this campaign.

For a second successive match, Rob Jones will be involved in the match official team for a West Ham game. Jones will oversee the Video Assistant Referee, having served as fourth official against Arsenal on December 28 2023. He has also officiated in the UEFA Europa League and refereed the 2019/20 EFL League One Play-Off final between Wycombe Wanderers and Oxford United.
