Krisztian Hegyi

Loan Watch: Unbeaten Hegyi earns consecutive clean sheets

West Ham United’s contingent of loanees were in action across Europe as football moves into the second half of the 2023/24 campaign…

The latest of consecutive clean sheets for Krisztián Hegyi arrived on Friday evening as the Hungary U21 international continued a great start to life on loan in Holland.

The young Hammer, who spent the first part of the season at EFL League One side Stevenage, helped Dutch Eerste Division outfit FC Den Bosch secure a point against Telstar and maintain their two-point lead over a direct relegation rival.

Den Bosch are 18th in the table but are unbeaten – draws against Telstar, Roda, and Jong PSV, conceding just twice - since Hegyi’s arrival earlier this month.

Hegyi and company face a quick return to action in Holland’s second tier and face 14th-place Helmond Sport at home on Friday 2 February.

Kodua

There was also a point secured for Freddie Potts and Gideon Kodua as EFL League One side Wycombe Wanderers saw a 2-2 draw against ten-man Fleetwood Town play out on Saturday afternoon.

Potts played a full 90 minutes while Kodua an unused substitute as second-half goals from Garath McCleary and Richard Kone saw the Chairboys overturn a two-goal deficit at the break and secure a point.

Another 2-2 draw was also played out in France, as Thilo Kehrer helped nine-man Monaco battle to Ligue 1 point against Marseille on Saturday evening.

The Germany international defender played for 90 minutes as goals from Wissam Ben Yedder and Maghnes Akilouche kept Monaco fourth in the table, despite red cards for Guillermo Maripan and Denis Zakaria.

Southampton also secured a late leveller to take their FA Cup fourth-round tie to a replay against Watford, although Flynn Downes was not involved in the matchday squad at Vicarage Road

Likewise, new West Bromwich loanee Callum Marshall, who made the move to the Midlands following the signing of a new contract until June 2027, was cup-tied for their 2-0 home defeat by Wolverhampton Wanderers at The Hawthorns, but could make a debut in another local derby against Birmingham City in the Championship next weekend.

Elsewhere, Academy midfielder Keenan Appiah-Forson played 88 minutes for Dagenham & Redbridge but saw his side fall to a 1-0 defeat by Kidderminster Harriers at Chigwell Construction Stadium. Caleb Richards scored the game's only goal as Daggers will now seek to respond when their National League campaign continues against Solihull Moors on Tuesday night.
