In the final game of the season, Luizão made his fourth consecutive start for Pogoń Szczecin since breaking into the team and making his full debut earlier this month, as they travelled to face defending Polish champions Jagiellonia Białystok on Saturday with European qualification on the line.
The Brazilian centre-back almost gave his side the lead from a set-piece routine, but his far-post header was brilliantly kept out by Sławomir Abramowicz’s outstretched foot. Shortly after, Pogoń did break the deadlock through Greek international Efthymis Koulouris, who netted his 32nd goal of the season, earning him the Polish Ekstraklasa Player of the Season award.

Despite Jagiellonia controlling large parts of the match, Pogoń continued to carve out chances to extend their lead. However, they were eventually punished when Norbert Wojtuszek equalised for the hosts midway through the second half, with the game ultimately finishing 1-1.
Having qualified for the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying rounds in each of the first three seasons since the competition’s launch in 2021, Pogoń narrowly missed out on a European place for the second consecutive year, finishing just one position short again in fourth.
