Konchesky wants Irons to be more ruthless at Leicester City

Paul Konchesky expects a ‘tough game’ as West Ham United Women travel to King Power Stadium to face Leicester City on Sunday afternoon.

The Hammers face their second Barclays Women’s Super League fixture of the week having fallen to a 4-0 defeat by Chelsea on Wednesday evening.

And the Gaffer will look to bounce back with a victory over the side currently sat three places below the Irons in eleventh.

“We know that will be tough,” Konchesky stated. “We’re two teams fighting for points and we need to pick some up. We need to go there and get the win.

We need passion and desire to finish the season strongly.

“The way we started the game against Chelsea, up until half-time, that’s what we want to see going forward. That’s the work-rate and togetherness we want to see, especially at Leicester City away on Sunday.”

While Leicester City have fallen to defeats in their last two games – against Arsenal and Chelsea – comprehensive wins over Reading and Liverpool have seen the Foxes surge up the table under the stewardship of Willie Kirk, who replaced Lydia Bedford in November.

With four points between the two sides, as it stands, Konchesky is expecting a competitive outing in Leicester.

Paul Konchesky on the touchline

He stated: “Willie Kirk has done a fantastic job since going in at Leicester. I think, when he took over, they were about seven points adrift and now, with just a couple of games to go, they’re right in it and have a chance of staying up.

“He’s done great. We know we’re in for a tough game up there, but we need to concentrate on ourselves and worry about us.

“We need to be ruthless in both boxes. We need to defend well, and we need to score goals. We need passion and desire to finish the season strongly.”
