Following the confirmation of his arrival at West Ham United, we take a photographic journey through Igor Julio’s impressive career in football so far.
Born in Bom Sucesso, in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, Igor featured for Atlético Mineiro and Portuguesa Santista in his youth, before signing for São Paulo-based Red Bull Brasil at the age of 18 in 2016, and then moving to Europe and joining Austrian heavyweights Red Bull Salzburg that same year.
After establishing himself at senior level with Red Bull Salzburg’s farm club FC Liefering in 2016/17, a season that also saw him win the UEFA Youth League with Salzburg’s U19s, the now 27-year-old went on to gain further experience on loan at fellow Austrian outfits Wolfsberger AC and Austria Wien in 2017/18 and 2018/19 respectively.
A permanent switch to Italian Serie A side SPAL followed in June 2019, where he scored his first senior goal amidst 20 appearances, before joining Fiorentina, initially on loan, in January 2020.
During a three-and-a-half year spell in Florence, Igor played 110 times and finished as a runner-up in the 2023 Coppa Italia, while he was also part of the team that fell 2-1 to West Ham United in the 2023 UEFA Europa Conference League final.
Igor moved to the Premier League for the first time when he signed for Brighton & Hove Albion in July 2023. While on the English south coast, he made 50 appearances, including six in the UEFA Europa League in the 2023/24 campaign.
