Hammers stars set for international duty

West Ham United will again be represented far and wide when international football returns in June.

The Hammers’ impressive 2021/22 campaign not only saw David Moyes’ squad reach the UEFA Europa League semi-finals and secure European qualification for a second straight year through their league position, but also saw a growing number of players earn deserved recognition from their respective national teams.

No fewer than 15 first-team players have been included in senior squads, with Jarrod Bowen’s inclusion in the England squad the latest confirmation that West Ham’s players are performing consistently at the highest level.

Everyone at the Club is both proud and delighted for Bowen, and for all those who are looking forward to representing their countries in FIFA World Cup Play-Offs, UEFA Nations League ties and CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in June.

The way every member of our squad has performed over the past two years, it is no surprise that international managers and coaches are seeing their qualities and including them in their plans
David Sullivan and David Gold

Joint-Chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold said: “Our congratulations go to all our fantastic players who have been called-up for international duty.

“It is always a source of great pride for us, our fellow Board members, the manager, coaching staff, the players and all the supporters whenever one of our players is selected to represent their country, as it is testament not just to their ability, but to the hard work they and everyone at the Club puts in every day to make them the best possible players they can be.

“The way every member of our squad has performed over the past two years, it is no surprise that international managers and coaches are seeing their qualities and including them in their plans.

“We look forward to watching Jarrod make his England debut alongside Declan Rice, and also to watching all of our other outstanding international players in action for their countries.”

Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal

Souček and Coufal are in the Czech Republic squad for 2022-23 UEFA Nations League A Group 2 ties home and away to Spain, home to Switzerland and away to Portugal.

Vlašić’s Croatia face Areola’s France home and away in Nations League A Group 1, while both countries also take on Austria and Denmark.

Yarmolenko’s Ukraine travel to Scotland for a 2022 World Cup Play-Off semi-final in Glasgow, with the winners taking on Wales in Cardiff in the final for a place in Qatar.

Benrahma’s Algeria kick-off their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Group F qualifying campaign with a home game against Uganda and away match in Tanzania.

At age-group level, Ben Johnson is in the England U21 squad for UEFA European Championship Group G qualifiers away to Czech Republic and Kosovo and at home to Albania and Slovenia, while no fewer than seven other young professionals have been called-up by their respective countries.

Everyone at the Club wishes our international players well and looks forward to welcoming them back for pre-season training later this summer.
