Chile call up Sáez for 2025 Copa América Femenina

West Ham United women’s team defender Camila Sáez has been named in Chile’s squad for the 2025 Copa América Femenina.

The centre-back has teamed up with José Letelier’s side ahead of the tournament in Ecuador following her first season with the Hammers, in which she made 14 appearances in all competitions.

Sáez, who made the move to east London in July 2024, is a stalwart for her country having made her debut as a 17-year-old in March 2011, and became the third woman to reach 100 caps for Chile in February.

The 30-year-old scored two goals at the 2018 edition of the tournament, which subsequently helped Chile qualify for their first-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup a year later. Sáez was called up to Chile’s 2019 World Cup squad and featured in all three group-stage fixtures.

For the 2025 Copa América, Chile have been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Ecuador, 2006 winners Argentina, Uruguay and Peru.

Chile’s campaign will get underway at Complejo Independiente del Valle, in Quito, against Peru (Saturday 12 July, kick-off 10pm BST) - a venue in which they will also face Argentina (Saturday 19 July, 1am BST) and Ecuador (Tuesday 22 July, 1am BST) before taking on Uruguay at Estadio Gonzalo Pozo Ripalda (Friday 25 July, 1am BST).

Elsewhere, Group B comprises Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, Venezuela and Bolivia, with the top two teams from each group progressing to the semi-finals before the showpiece on Saturday 2 August.

Ahead of the tournament, Sáez and Chile are set to contest a final warm-up friendly against Bolivia in Santiago, at 11.30pm BST on Thursday 3 July.

Everyone at West Ham United would like to congratulate Cami on her call-up and wish her
every success at this summer’s Copa América.
