Belloumou crowned Best Algerian Player of the Year

West Ham United women’s team left-back Inès Belloumou has been crowned the 2025 Algerian Player of the Year.

The defender was one of nine players shortlisted for the accolade and won with more than 51 per cent of the online vote, which opened on Monday 3 November and closed a week later. The winner was also decided by a panel of Algerian journalists.

She saw off Sofia Guellati, Roselène Khezami, Ghoutia Karchouni, Chloé N'Gazi, Marine Dafeur, Inès Boutaleb, Lina Boussaha and Morgane Belkhiter to win the award. The latter won the first edition of the accolade last year.

Our No7 shone for her nation at her first-ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in the summer, as she was part of an Algerian defence that didn’t concede a goal throughout the competition. Her side reached the quarter-finals in Morocco but were unfortunately knocked out in the last eight on penalties following a goalless draw with Ghana.

Belloumou, who switched her international allegiance from France to Algeria midway through last season, most recently helped Les Fennecs qualify for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a two-legged success against Cameroon in October.

Everyone at West Ham United would like to congratulate Inès on winning the 2025 Best Algerian Player of the Year award.
