David Moyes: We’re in a good position and we need to keep it going
David Moyes is hoping history repeats itself for his West Ham United side as they head through the first few months of 2022.
It was in the early part of last year that the Hammers’ challenge for European qualification gathered pace, as a run of seven wins in nine Premier League games through January and February propelled us up into the top four.
This year, Moyes’ men have already won their opening three games of the New Year, and look well placed for another go at a European spot, alongside their ongoing FA Cup and UEFA Europa League campaigns.
Moyes does not want his team to get ahead of themselves as they prepare for Sunday’s London Stadium meeting with Leeds United, but believes they can draw on their experiences of last season’s success to help guide them through this period.
We’re in a good position and we have to keep it going in the second half of the season.
“I think we’re in good shape, and this is the time of the year last season that we really kicked into gear,” he said.
“It was in January that we went into a good run of form into February, and right up to the international break.
“That gave us a chance to compete with the other teams, so I hope we can hang on to the shirt tails and keep it going.
“We got Cressy back the other night, which was great, and the quicker we can get Kurt back to add to that as well, it will give us a better opportunity.
“We’re in a good position and we have to keep it going in the second half of the season.”
