Fantasy Premier League – Gameweek 22 preview!

West Ham United celebrate

West Ham United’s consecutive Premier League victories have seen several Hammers in particularly fine form in the competition - and that will have caught the attention of Fantasy Premier League managers.

Here are the FPL headlines ahead of Leeds United’s second visit of a week…

Jarrod Bowen wears the crown

News that will come as little surprise: Jarrod Bowen has become the first West Ham United player this season to finish a Gameweek as the top-scoring player in the Premier League.

Encompassing both our New Year's Day win over Crystal Palace and Wednesday's 2-0 win over Norwich City, no fewer than six Hammers finished in Gameweek 21's 'Kings of the Gameweek' - the top-scoring XI across the league for that round.

But Bowen is the first Hammer this season to beat out all other players; indeed, his haul of 21 points over the two games is the joint-second highest in FPL this season, after Mason Mount racked up 24 points in Gameweek Nine for Chelsea.

With a brace against the Canaries to go along with an assist against Palace, Bowen has risen to become West Ham's strongest-performing FPL player this season, sitting on 115 points for the season - the fourth-highest total in the league.

Bowen's improvement is also evidenced by the fact that he is now just 26 points behind his total for the entirety of last season (141), having scored twice and assisted five goals in his last four top-flight appearances.

Moving ahead of the likes of Michail Antonio (now on 94 points) and Said Benrahma (89), no player offers better value for FPL budget than Bowen, available at £6.7m, who is selected by 22.1 per cent of teams, a huge rise from the 1.9 per cent who had him in their sides at the beginning of November.

From ‘differential’ to difference-maker, all Hammers are crossed that Bowen’s fine form continues.

Six Hammers star in the round

Of the eleven positions open in the Kings of the Gameweek, West Ham players claimed six for Gameweek 21.

Vladimír Coufal (12 points) and Issa Diop (eight points) were all included for the first time this season, with Bowen (21), Manuel Lanzini (18) and Lukasz Fabianski and Antonio (both nine) also all included.

In previous Gameweeks, Benrahma, Aaron Cresswell, Pablo Fornals, Arthur MasuakuAngelo Ogbonna, Declan Rice and Tomáš Souček have all been a division-topping FPL asset.

Time your Free Hits

With the quantity of postponed games due to be played in the coming weeks, FPL has gifted managers a second ‘Free Hit’ chip, allowing for unlimited transfers in an individual Gameweek – so use this to track transfer deadlines and take advantage of the upcoming double Gameweeks.

From a West Ham perspective, a reminder as well that Benrahma will be absent from Gameweek 22 as he is on international duty, as well as potentially weeks 23 and 24.

The transfer deadline for Gameweek 22 is 6.30pm GMT on Friday 14 January.

Opposition report

Injuries and absences abound make Leeds United a difficult proposition to predict from a Fantasy Premier League perspective, but the Whites’ winger Raphinha – available at £6.5m – remains a popular pick at 15.1 per cent for the consistency of his attacking output, notching 84 points so far this season, including a goal in September's reverse fixture.

Elsewhere in Marcelo Bielsa’s squad, only two other players have scored over 50 points so far this season: Illan Meslier has earned many of his 54 from averaging a high number of saves within matches, and has the Premier League’s highest ICT (Influence, Creativity and Threat) rating for a goalkeeper; and Stuart Dallas’ ten-point showing in the 3-1 win over Burnley propelled him up to 53 for the campaign.
