On This Day: Craig Bellamy and Matty Etherington fire West Ham United to Reading victory
Craig Bellamy and Matty Etherington were among the goals as West Ham United secured their second Premier League win of the 2007/08 season at Reading on this day 14 years ago.
Returning to the Madejski Stadium exactly eight months after being thumped 6-0 on New Year's Day, Alan Curbishley's side turned the tables on the Royals to secure a welcome victory.
Summer signing Bellamy, who had arrived from Liverpool for a record £7.5m fee, opened the scoring inside six minutes.
Winger Etherington then took centre-stage, scoring at either end of the second half to ensure all three points travelled back to east London.
In between, goalkeeper Robert Green also saved a penalty from Reading striker Kevin Doyle.
The win made it four games unbeaten for Curbishley's Irons in all competitions and saw them climb to eighth in the table.
After securing a miraculous escape from relegation the previous season, West Ham would enjoy less stressful campaign in 2007/08, finishing tenth with 49 points.
Reading, meanwhile, were relegated on goal difference.
