Premier League Cup fixture change for West Ham United U23s
West Ham United U23s have seen their Premier League Cup group-stage trip to Swansea City rescheduled.
The fixture, originally due to be played at Swansea’s Landore Academy on Friday 12 November at 2pm, will now kick off at 12noon on Friday 3 December at the same venue.
Boasting a Category Two status academy, the Swans will be the become the third team that the young Hammers have faced in the cup competition this season, after a 1-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers and a dramatic 3-2 win over Exeter City last week.
Dmitri Halajko’s West Ham development squad scored twice in the last five minutes to turn things around against the Grecians at Rush Green, meaning they now sit second in Group F on three points, with four games to go.
Swansea, meanwhile, have only played one group game so far – a 1-1 draw away at Exeter – and face Wolves at home next. The top two teams from each group advance.
The Irons and Swans last met at Academy level in the 2019/20 season in Premier League 2 Division 2, when West Ham came from behind to win 4-2 at Landore.
Open to Category One and Category Two academies, with Categories Three and Four clubs vying in qualifiers to join them, the Premier League Cup is designed to enhance the competitiveness of the Professional Development Phase calendar with knockout football alongside the regular league campaign.
The competition returns this season after being curtailed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019/20, and subsequently not taking place in 2020/21.
