West Ham Esports unveils new team for FIFA 22
West Ham United is pleased to announce its Esports team for the competitive FIFA 22 season ahead, as part of its ongoing partnership with Team Bundled.
The digital Irons are delighted to retain the skills of rising prodigy Alfie ‘AC RedLac’ Calder, who reached the second day of the European Xbox Playoffs – the continent’s top 32 players – last season while wearing Claret and Blue.
The achievement was made all the more remarkable by the fact that it was just the 18-year-old’s second full season as a competitive FIFA player, and first backed by a Club or organisation.
West Ham are also delighted to announce the arrival of ‘Tjardo’ Paliama for the competitive FIFA season ahead.
An eDivisie champion in FIFA 21 whilst representing Ajax, 19-year-old Paliama – also formerly a FIFA player for Vitesse – joined the Amsterdam-based club last summer after winning the highly-competitive Ziggo eBattle tournament in the Netherlands.
Alongside teammate ‘Dani’ Hagebeuk, Tjardo did not drop a single leg of the eDivisie finals tournament last year as the virtual Ajax team stormed to victory in the Netherlands’ prestigious FIFA competition.
In FIFA 21’s Global Series, Tjardo finished within the top 45 players in Europe, after a Day One elimination from the PlayStation 4 Playoffs.
Very proud to announce that I have signed for @WestHam. I’m grateful to represent this big @premierleague team, after winning the @E_Divisie in the Netherlands last season. Big thanks to my management @teamBundled for making this happen. I’ll give everything for this club ⚒#COYI pic.twitter.com/fCQMopw9m9— Tjarriee (@TjardoPaliama) October 2, 2021
Paliama was also formerly a burgeoning footballer in the youth academy at his local club Almere City, but was forced to stop in 2017 due to a broken knee, instigating the teenager’s passion for FIFA Esports.
RedLac, meanwhile, came within half a leg of earning a call-up to the England international team, the eLions, last season, and earned plenty of plaudits for his exciting, attacking brand of FIFA – with even more of his potential set to be unlocked this FIFA 22 season.
With FIFA 22 Global Series events being exclusively on PlayStation this season, and a new format introduced which sees 2v2 matches form part of the event programme, together RedLac and Paliama form an exciting line-up for the season ahead.
West Ham United have long been pioneers in the Esports market, having become the first Premier League club to sign a professional player in Sean ‘Dragonn’ Allen five years ago.
As FIFA Esports continues to grow as a professional outlet, the new player line-up represents another positive step forwards for West Ham United in the digital arena.
West Ham United’s Esports channels will continue to work with Team Bundled, the Club’s official Esports agency, to offer innovative FIFA 22 – and wider gaming – content, as well as regular live streams, tips, tricks, competitions and opportunities to win exciting prizes.
The announcement sees Curtis ‘Papsity’ Poole and Jonas ‘Jonna’ Ghebrehiwot depart West Ham Esports after successful spells with the side. The Club would like to thank them both for their services and wish them well for the future.
