West Ham United U23s to travel to Old Trafford in Premier League 2
West Ham United U23s’ Premier League 2 fixture away at Manchester United in February 2022 has been moved to Old Trafford.
The kick-off details of the fixture – which will commence at 7pm on Friday 4 February 2022 – remain unchanged.
For the second time in three seasons, the Hammers’ development squad will have the opportunity to impress at the 76,000-capacity stadium, the largest club football arena in the United Kingdom.
In August 2019, at the beginning of an enthralling Premier League 2 Division 2 title race between the two sides, West Ham U23s thought they had scored a deserved late winner, but found themselves pegged back in injury time in an exciting 2-2 draw.
The young Hammers went on to win that race in a curtailed season, before doing the double over the young Red Devils – 2-0 at Rush Green, and 3-2 at Leigh Sports Village – last season.
West Ham's and Manchester United’s U23s last met in Premier League 2 in October, when the Irons ran rampant in a 6-0 victory over the ten-man Red Devils in east London.
The chance to showcase their potential at Old Trafford is therefore an exciting one for the high-flying Hammers, who currently sit just a single point and place off the top of Premier League 2 Division 1.
Attentions will turn for now, however, to the visit of third-placed Manchester City U23s to Rush Green on Saturday lunch-time, in a 1pm kick-off which will be played behind closed doors.
The fixture will be new U23s lead coach Mark Robson’s first in charge of the young Hammers, having replaced the outgoing Dmitri Halajko last week.
