Team News: Barker & Denton make first WSL starts
West Ham United Women have made three changes from last weekend’s 0-0 draw with Aston Villa for this afternoon’s match against Manchester City.
Anouk Denton and Maisy Barker make their first starts in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League on what is another proud day for the academy of football.
Denton, who celebrates her 18th birthday today has made two substitute appearances since joining the Hammers in March. She also scored in the 11-0 thrashing of Chichester & Selsey in the FA Cup fourth round.
Barker made her debut for West Ham United on the reverse fixture against City back in February. The academy graduate has made five appearances in all competitions this season, with her other start coming in the FA Cup win over Chichester & Selsey.
Laura Vetterlein returns to the Starting XI, with Martha Thomas, Emily van Egmond and Cecilie Redisch unavailable for selection.
Thomas continues to struggle with an overload problem in her foot and therefore will not be involved this afternoon.
Also joining Thomas in the treatment room are Redisch and Van Egmond, who have both been carrying knocks in recent weeks. They are both ruled out of our final league match of the season.
On a positive note, Leanne Kiernan is fit enough to be named on the substitutes bench after a long period out on the sidelines.
The Irish forward has been limited to only nine matches this season but could make her return in Claret & Blue for the first time since our 1-0 defeat to Brighton back in November 2020.
West Ham United Women: Arnold, Flaherty, Fisk, Cissoko, Barker, Denton, Longhurst, Pacheco, Vetterlein, Dali.
Subs: Brosnan, Mustafa, Kiernan.
