Fantasy Premier League – Gameweek 19 preview!

Jarrod Bowen

With the fixtures coming thick and fast in the Premier League as teams tackle the festive period, West Ham United’s Fantasy Premier League managers might yet have the opportunity to capitalise on the Irons' strong form so far this season.

Ahead of the visit of Southampton to London Stadium, here’s the FPL lowdown…

Get Jarrod Bow-in

This one’s a no-brainer.

West Ham’s No20 has enjoyed a sterling season so far in Claret and Blue, and is starting to deliver match-winning performances on a consistent basis.

The £6.5m-rated Bowen has played 70 minutes or more in 16 of West Ham’s opening 17 Premier League games, and – classed as a midfielder – has produced some outstanding points returns as a result.

Registering no fewer than three goals, seven assists and 67 points since Gameweek Five, Bowen’s totals of 35 shots and 14 shots on target place him among the top six players in the Premier League over that time.

That kind of return has seen the 24-year-old overtake Michail Antonio as the Hammers’ top-performing player, with 76 points to the No9’s 75 – but Bowen remains selected by just 7.4 per cent of players, presenting an attractive ‘differential’ option.

Throw in an outstanding goal against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, and there's simply no question as to whether to get Bow-in!

Declan Rice

Rice the ever-present

Declan Rice has seemingly been everywhere this season – and seemingly at every moment.

The West Ham vice-captain is one of only two top-flight midfielders – and eight outfield players – to have played every minute of football for their respective sides this season.

Anyone who has witnessed Rice’s recent appearances will have appreciated the greater attacking thrust to his game, with the 22-year-old well on course, with a goal, three assists and 53 FPL points so far this season, to surpass his previous season best of 86 points.

Opposition FPL report: Southampton

Winless in their last six matches, and with just three wins overall from their first 17 games this season, Southampton have offered few reliable FPL points scorers this season.

Their joint-top points scorers have been goalkeeper Alex McCarthy (£4.5m) and defender Tino Livramento (£4.4m) on 53 points. The value for budget the latter offers has seen him chosen by 17.6% of FPL managers this season.

The Saints do possess a trio of forwards all level on 47 points in addition, with Che Adams (£6.8m; three goals, two assists); Adam Armstrong (£5.8m; two goals, three assists); and Armando Broja (£5.1m; four goals, one assist) all combining to split the Saints’ attacking points between them.

Other than Livramento, however, no Southampton player has been selected by more than four per cent of FPL managers.
