Opening WSL home match with Arsenal chosen as supporter pilot event
West Ham United is pleased to confirm that our Barclays FA WSL home fixture against Arsenal on Saturday 12 September at 5.20pm has been selected as one of the pilot events to test - on Government guidance - the return of spectators to elite sporting fixtures.
The decision means our women’s Season Ticket holders will be welcomed as some of the first fans in the UK to see the return of live football at our new home stadium - Dagenham & Redbridge FC’s Victoria Road. The test event has been scheduled in line with Government and local authority guidance, with only Season Ticket Holders being permitted to attend, on a first come, first serve basis, up to a maximum capacity of 1,000.
Any women’s Season Ticket Holders yet to renew or supporters who wish to purchase a Season Ticket have until 12pm on Friday 4 September to register for the chance to attend the pilot fixture.
Government guidance on how these pilot events should run has been developed with UK Sport and in close consultation with the Deputy Chief Medical Officers of England, Public Health England, the Sports Grounds Safety Authority, Police and medical representatives across Olympic, Paralympic and professional sports governing bodies.
It is a real privilege that this fixture has been selected as one of the pilot events for supporters to return to live football matches in the UK.
The Club has also worked with the relevant authorities to ensure our Season Ticket Holders will have all of the information required to be able to attend the match, and the procedures that we are putting in place to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all who attend the fixture.
West Ham United women’s managing director Jack Sullivan said: “It is a real privilege that this fixture has been selected as one of the pilot events for supporters to return to live football matches in the UK.
“Our Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture with Arsenal will be the first in our new matchday home and we feel it’s fitting that we are able to welcome our fantastic supporters to share in what will be a historic and memorable occasion for West Ham United.”
West Ham United women’s head coach Matt Beard said: “To be chosen as one of the very first football matches in the United Kingdom to welcome back fans is brilliant - one that the team and I are very much looking forward to.
“The eyes of the country will be on us on Saturday 12 September and it will be a joy to share the occasion of our first league match at our new home with our supporters in attendance, and football fans watching from home.”
Women’s captain Gilly Flaherty is excited to welcome the women’s Season Ticket Holders to Victoria Road for the very first time as the Irons kick-off life in their new matchday home against the Gunners.
Flaherty said: “We have been counting down the days until West Ham United fans could once again watch us in action, and I speak for every member of the team when I saw how excited we are that our match with Arsenal will see them return.
“It is only fitting that our first game at our new matchday home would have our supporters in attendance and it will be an honour to once again step out in front of them, hear their support and play for them in just over a week’s time.”
All Season Ticket Holders wishing to attend the match will be sent a full information pack before the fixture, including social distancing measures and crowd management, health screening upon arrival, travel to and from the match, stadium facilities, ticketing and code of conduct and accessibility needs.
The Club will also contact Season Ticket Holders directly again in due course to provide further information on the steps that will be taken to ensure that the health and wellbeing of everyone attending the fixture is our absolute priority. Supporters should note that no tickets will be available for purchase on the day of the game.
Season Ticket Holders that are unable to attend due to medical reasons, that have been ‘shielding’ under Government guidelines, or are registered as a carer for someone else, will be entitled to a pro-rata refund by filling in this form and upon receipt of proof of medical exemption before 5pm on Monday 7 September. If you become symptomatic or return a positive test for COVID-19 after the deadline for medical exemption, please contact the Ticket Office. For more information, or to apply for a refund, please contact the Ticket Office by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 0333 030 1966.
West Ham United wishes to make it clear that any women’s Season Ticket Holder who does not feel comfortable attending this match does not have to do so, and can opt out of receiving a ticket for the game by contacting the Ticket Office via emailing the link above.
