Team news: Michail Antonio to miss Liverpool match

Michail Antonio in action against Manchester City

West Ham United manager David Moyes has confirmed he will be without Michail Antonio for Saturday's Premier League trip to Liverpool.

The Hammers forward will sit out the Anfield test with the hamstring injury which forced him out of the action during last weekend's 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

Moyes, however, does not expect Antonio to be out for long and hopes to welcome him back soon.

"Michail has been great for us and he's played really, really well, he's an important member of the team," the boss said.

"He came off against Spurs and just felt something. He played against Manchester City and he just felt it again.

"We don't think it's too bad, but it's enough to keep him out of this game against Liverpool."

Antonio is set to be the only absentee as the Hammers head to Merseyside and Moyes paid tribute to the work of his backroom staff for getting the players through a heavy schedule at the start of the 2020/21 campaign.

"It's near-enough the first injury we've had," Moyes added, "We've been pretty consistent and we've kept the boys in really good condition.

"The medical team's been great and the recovery has been really good. I don't know if we've been lucky in that we've not had the injuries, but I hope it stays that way because you need your players to be fit."
