Issa Diop: We need to continue to work hard

Issa Diop applauds the Hammers fans at Manchester City

Issa Diop believes the effort displayed by his side at Manchester City on Wednesday will help steer West Ham United away from trouble.

The Hammers gave a disciplined performance at Etihad Stadium, working hard out of possession to limit Pep Guardiola's men for large periods.

Ultimately, a goal each from Rodrigo and Kevin De Bruyne left the visitors' endeavour without reward but, for Diop, the organisation they showed will stand them in good stead for the tests ahead.

"Of course it's disappointing to lose," he said. "When you lose it always is. It's like this, the match is over now, so we are all eyes on the Liverpool game now.

"Our position in the table [is not where we want to be], but we have to work hard to take points - that's the only solution.

"We were up against a good team on Wednesday and [ultimately] we didn't do the good things [necessary] to take points."

Diop was also disappointed for his fellow defender Ryan Fredericks, who had to leave the action early with what appeared to be a shoulder injury, sustained when he fell heavily following a challenge with the home side's goalscorer Rodrigo.

"It's bad for Ryan to suffer an injury," Diop added. "He'll have some scans tand we'll see how he is."
