Sebastien Haller: Hopefully Diangana will keep setting up goals for me!
Sebastien Haller hopes the 4-1 win away to Ipswich Town is the start of a beautiful pairing with Grady Diangana.
The Academy graduate provided assists for Haller’s first two finishes in Tuesday’s victory at Portman Road, with the striker then grabbing his hat-trick after Tomas Soucek added West Ham’s third in a thrilling match against the Tractor Boys.
With Diangana putting the ball into a dangerous area just prior to half-time and on the hour mark, Haller was only too happy to tuck the ball into the net.
The Frenchman is optimistic he and Diangana can continue to build an understanding for the Hammers after what was a positive first pre-season performance.
It’s nice for us to have a kind of player like Grady...Hopefully he will be giving me even more assists in the future!
“We can feel satisfied about the result,” Haller told West Ham TV. “Of course, we still have some work to do, but it’s important to start with good standards and to perform as a team. We need to perform our individual duties, so it was nice to score three goals. It is my job to score and we believe we can do better.
“It’s nice for us to have a kind of player like Grady. Everyone knows the quality he hasm and then he went on loan to West Brom and everyone knows he performed pretty well. We are all happy to have him here and we are going to try to use his quality and strength, me most of all.
“Hopefully he will be giving me even more assists in the future!”
Four finishes at Ipswich, combined with five goals scored by the other half of the team at Wycombe Wanderers, meant a continuation of the fine form in front of goal from the end of the 2019/20 season for West Ham.
Haller says the target is to take that form into the new Premier League season when it starts in just over two weeks' time.
He continued: “This is the target. This is what we want. We know how difficult it will be again this coming season, in the Premier League, so we need to get the points early in the season and try to bring the form we had at the end of last season.”
Having enjoyed a couple of weeks break at the end of the campaign, Haller is looking forward to the new campaign kicking off.
“I feel okay. Mentally, I think it was a difficult moment for everyone, but now we’ve tried to recharge the battery and reload everything. We’re all thinking about the new season and being fresh mentally and hitting the goals that we want.”
