West Ham United kick-off preparations for 2020/21 season at Rush Green
Just 22 days after their 2019/20 season ended, West Ham United’s first-team squad reported back to Rush Green on Monday to kick-off preparations for the 2020/21 campaign.
David Moyes, his staff and players returned for pre-season training, undergoing tests and taking part in a series of drills on the pitches, as work started ahead of what promises to be another exciting Premier League season.
Following strict guidelines, the Hammers voluntarily returned to Phase One of the protocol agreed by the Premier League, its member clubs, independent experts and the Government, back in May.
This meant the players training in small groups of four to five players, maintaining social distancing, arriving and departing in their training kit and working with disinfected equipment.
Following their short summer break, the playing squad and backroom staff underwent COVID testing on Sunday and, subject to satisfactory results being received, the Irons will step up to contact training, enabling them to train as a group and engage in tackling while minimising any unnecessary close contact, on Tuesday.
In the meantime, the Club, its medical and operations team continues to put many measures in place that go above and beyond the Government and Premier League recommendations to ensure that Rush Green can be as safe as it can possibly be, including health screening and temperature tents for players and staff upon entry.
Moyes, his staff and squad will travel to Scotland for a short training camp later on Tuesday, before returning to Rush Green next week.
The Hammers will then step up their preparations for the new season by playing a pair of pre-season matches against EFL opposition on the afternoon of Tuesday 25 August, with one group of players taking on Championship new boys Wycombe Wanderers and a second facing League One side Ipswich Town.
Both fixtures will be played away from home without supporters present, in line with Government guidelines and social distancing measures that remain in place as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Claret and Blue Army will be able to follow both games here on whufc.com and across our social media channels.
