On This Day: Cole and Nolan goal kick-off 2013/14 season with a win
Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, in association with RoadX Tyres...
Joe Cole and Kevin Nolan were on target as West Ham United kicked-off the 2013/14 season with a 2-0 Premier League win over Cardiff City.
The Hammers, who had finished tenth as a newly-promoted side under Sam Allardyce in 2012/13, made the perfect start to the new campaign with a comfortable win over the Bluebirds.
A capacity crowd at the Boleyn Ground saw the Irons take the lead inside eleven minutes when Cole collected Matt Jarvis's low cross, span and fired low past goalkeeper David Marshall.
And the three points were secured 14 minutes from full-time with a brilliant West Ham goal.
After some patient build-up involving Mark Noble, and debutants Stewart Downing and Mohamed Diame, Noble exchanged passes with Modibo Maiga before cutting the ball square for Nolan, whose first-time finish curled perfectly inside the left-hand post.
