Tomas Soucek lands Czech Golden Ball award
West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek's impressive season has seen him land the Czech Republic's Golden Ball award.
The Golden Ball is a poll of Czech sports journalists to determine the country's player of the year - and Soucek's performances for the Hammers since January and Slavia Prague in the first half of the season took him to the prize.
It completes a national awards double for the 25-year-old after he was named Czech Footballer of the Year - as voted for by Czech managers, captains, international teammates and journalists - in March.
The Golden Ball has been won by a host of Czech footballing greats since its introduction in 1997, with Pavel Nedved lifting it six times and Petr Cech on an incredible 12 occasions.
Soucek's impact since arriving at the Hammers has been clear to see, with the midfielder notching three important goals to help his team secure Premier League safety.
