Felipe Anderson: We want to be invincible at London Stadium
West Ham United’s encouraging start to the 2019/20 season has come as no surprise to Felipe Anderson.
The in-form winger has been a standout performer for the Hammers, who have kicked-off the campaign with three wins and just one defeat – to champions Manchester City – from their opening five matches in all competitions.
For the Brazilian, those results were borne out of a productive and positive pre-season, minimal but successful recruitment and rising confidence in and around the squad.
“Unfortunately, we didn’t start the season as we would have liked it, with that defeat at home [against Manchester City], but we knew we were working well, we had an exceptional preparation, so we knew the results would come,” the No8 explained. “And now we have showed our good side in these victories.
“We’re playing intelligently and keeping possession of the ball and that makes easier to create chances and to convert them of course.
“Our base of players is still the same, last season there were a lot of new faces, so it was harder to mould them into a unit but this season we already have that base, and the new players have quality so the process is easier.”
Felipe Anderson himself has been outstanding so far, completing eleven of his 13 attempted dribbles, providing an assist for Sebastien Haller’s first goal for the Club in the 3-1 win at Watford and another superb pass for Arthur Masuaku to cross for the Frenchman’s opener in the 2-0 victory over Norwich City.
The Brazilian’s athleticism, pace and penchant for nutmegging his opponents have repeatedly got supporters off their seats, particularly in Saturday’s London Stadium success against the Canaries.
And the Brasilia-born star is determined that West Ham make their home ground a true fortress this term, providing the foundation for a sustained attack on the Premier League’s top six.
“I have always said that West Ham have the quality to play against any rival,” he insisted. “Our idea is to be invincible at home and then try to get results away. So, we can play against anyone and we know it, but we also know that we have to go step by step.”
