Double League victory for the Second Chance team
The end of the 2018/19 season has brought huge success for West Ham United's Second Chance Academy.
The team have been crowned champions of the two leagues they compete in - the U19 Football Conference Youth Alliance League and the U19 East Divison League. Not only did they win the titles, but the Hammers remained unbeaten for the entire season, culminating with a home win against Crystal Palace last week.
They now have the chance to go on and win an additional three trophies in the upcoming weeks, including the SCL League Challenge Cup, SCL Champion of Champions Cup Final and the National League Champions Cup.
Bryan Glover, Head of Football Development, spoke about the success seen by the programme this year. "I am thrilled with the success of the Second Chance team this season. The team has worked brilliantly together this season and this teamwork has shown both on the pitch and in the classroom. I wish the team every success on their future games and would like to say a huge well done to all the players and staff involved in this programme."
The Second Chance Academy is a Post-16 education programme to enable students to study a BTEC Level 2 or 3 in sports-based qualification alongside regular football training and one matchday per week. This ground-breaking partnership between the West Ham United Foundation and West Ham United Academy has seen the programme provide young footballers previously released by Academies the opportunity to come to Chadwell Heath to train as well as receiving an education.
The West Ham United Foundation wishes the Second Chance team every success in their upcoming matches.
