Highlights - Newcastle United 3-2 West Ham United PL2

Newcastle United 3-2 West Ham United

ETFT: Finally, that's it. A huge effort from the Hammers in that and even in the final minutes, we had a few half chances to equalise. We won't be defending our Premier League Cup title this season, but it's an effort to be proud of nonetheless. Make sure you catch our highlights later this evening; it was a very entertaining tie!

114: What a chance! Browne swipes at one at the back post, but Sels is there to block the goal bound attempt. Six to play...

110: Drama! Tunji Akinola has the ball in the net, but the referee blows for a foul on the Magpies keeper. Browne's corner had given Powell a chance in the air, but the winger missed his header and Akinola put the ball in after Hector-Ingram had also had a swipe at it. Free-kick - not sure about that one...

107: A last throw of the dice in terms of replacements for the Hammers. Sylvestre is sacrificed for the more attacking option of Jahmal Hector-Ingram.

ETHT: Newcastle lead. 15 minutes to save our Premier League Cup campaign.

104: Chance! Browne chooses to go alone despite the support of Kemp to his right, and after cutting back onto his left, he curls it into the arms of Sels.

100: Five left to play in the first half of extra time. Fletcher has a go after a nice one-two with Joe Powell but he doesn't connect cleanly with the ball.

95: Goal for the hosts. Newcastle United take the lead for the first time this afternoon and it's that man Ameobi again. He smashes past Trott from 25 yards. He's been the difference so far.

92: Fletcher smashes one just wide from a tight angle but he's flagged for offside.

FT: What an eventful last four minutes of stoppage time they were! Ridiculous entertainment here at Newcastle. Extra-time to come!

90+3: Incredible! Marcus Browne lines a shot up from all of 30 yards and it crashes against the inside of the post and rolls agonisingly out. Newcastle break and it takes a piece of fantastic Noha Sylvestre defending to stop the hosts stealing the win.

90+2: Further relief! Charman breaks clear but curls an attempt well over.

90+1: Relief for the Hammers as a fierce Ameobi drive falls kindly into Trott's arms. Four minutes of added time at St. James'.

88: Chance goes missing for West Ham. Alfie Lewis does brilliantly to work some space on the edge of the box but his final pass is just too heavy for Fletcher.

83: Goal. Heartbreaking for the Hammers. Sammy Ameobi curls home an unstoppable effort from the edge of the box to level things up again. West Ham had only half cleared the previous cross, and the winger was waiting to bend his shot home. 2-2. We could be heading for extra-time.

75: Make sure you catch Dec's celebration in tonight's highlights...we love that from the skip!

73: GOOOOOOAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL! What a header from Declan Rice! The skipper powers West Ham back in front with a super header! Kyle Knoyle delivered the chipped cross from the right and the captain, still up from an earlier set piece, wanted it more in the air. We're back in front!

71: Newcastle sub Holmes tries his luck from a tight angle but it's held well by Trott in goal. The Hammers are struggling to get any sort of breathing space here.

65: Hard one for the Hammers to take, that. Although Newcastle have controlled this second period, they hadn't really looked like scoring until then.

63: Goal for the hosts. Luke Charman finishes after Haidara had crossed well into the six yard box. The striker couldn't miss, and it's level in the Premier League Cup.

62: Sub here for the Hammers. Alfie Lewis is introduced and off heads Martin Samuelsen, who's had a good game this afternoon.

60: Sylvestre goes into the book for a late tackle on Charman.

56: What a challenge! Newcastle look like they are about to equalise through Charman from eight yards, by Kyle Knoyle comes out of nowhere to slide and deny the forward. Brilliant work!

53: Noha Sylvestre, naturally a central midfielder, is having a great game at left-back today. He's right-footed, but he's coping with everything the experienced Sammy Ameobi is throwing at him.

50: Early chance for Haidara. Charman gets inside the box on the right and squares it Haidara who slices wide from ten yards out.

46: Big second half for the lads in the north east. Come on you Irons!

HT: The referee blows his whistle for half time, and dare we say it...West Ham United have one foot in the Premier League Cup quarter-finals. They controlled proceedings for the opening half an hour before Newcastle came back into the tie, but we hold vital lead at the break.

42: Great chance for Fletcher's second! Browne delivers a wicked corner and Fletcher, unmarked, powers a header goal wards, but it's well saved by Sels.

41: Close call! Trott saves an Ameobi effort but spills his catch onto the crossbar! It drops on top of the woodwork and falls straight back into his arms! Phew...

40: Kemp gets forward down the right again, and spreads it into Fletcher. The forward pokes it at goal but it drifts inches wide.

35: Straight into the wall.

34: Chance from 25 yards for Newcastle with a free-kick. Ameobi is behind it...

31: Makasi gives the ball away in a dodgy area but as Fernandez breaks, the midfielder does well to track back and win the ball back. Superb work from Makasi.

30: Curtis Good is shown a yellow card for a challenge on Nathan Holland.

28: Samuelsen goes down injured but the play continues around him and Holland breaks well for the Hammers. He gets all the way into the six yard box and the ball, somehow, finds itself in the hands of Matz Sels. Not quite sure what happened, there!

26: The Magpies with their first spell of pressure, keeping the ball in the Hammers' half but it leads to nothing. Westley will be delighted with how his team have performed so far in this first period.

22: Dan Kemp is giving Gibson a torrid time down the Hammers' right. He's been fouled a number of times by the full-back, including the penalty. The latest free-kick leads to a Kemp shot which is well saved by Sels.

17: More great football from the Hammers sees Nathan Holland get in behind after a quickly worked free-kick. The winger's effort is well saved by Sels, however.

13: Sammy Ameobi has Newcastle's first attempt at goal. He gets in some space on the right but his effort with the weaker foot flashes across the face of goal. Never troubling Trott, that one.

12: The Hammers are in control. They deserved that early lead and Newcastle can't get near them in the middle at the moment.

7: GOALLLLLLLL! The Hammers have a vital early lead! They work it superbly into the box and Dan Kemp was taken out by Liam Gibson. Ashley Fletcher steps up to take the spot kick and tucks it away to the keeper's right. Superb finish and a great start for the visitors.

4: The Hammers have had a lot of early possession here at St. James' Park and look dangerous when given time and space in midfield. Samuelsen and Browne, in the centre together, look in the mood.

1: A place in the Premier League Cup quarter-finals is at stake. Come on you Irons!

12:45pm: This is a huge game for our young Hammers. Keen to defend their title, they've put out one of the strongest sides they can considering the U18s and first team are both in action today. Samuelsen, Browne, Kemp, Holland and Fletcher line up in attack; there's plenty of ability on the ball in this side and let's hope by 3pm the youngsters have secured a place in the last eight of this competition.

12:00pm: Good afternoon! We're back at St. James' Park for the second time this week and this time it's a cup test for the Hammers.
