Joint-Chairman thrilled with Byram signing

Joint-Chairman David Sullivan believes new signing Sam Byram has the quality to break into the England squad over the next few years

West Ham United Joint-Chairman David Sullivan is thrilled to have secured the signing of talented full-back Sam Byram and believes he has the quality to break into the England squad over the next few years.

Byram has been earning rave reviews playing for Leeds in the Championship and attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

But the Hammers won the race to clinch his signature on a four-and-a-half year deal and Sullivan is confident the versatile player will be a major success with the east London Club.

Sullivan said: “He has been bought for the future and long term he could well be an English international.

“He is a utility player who can play anywhere down the right hand side and when played in a forward position he can score goals. He has already scored three times for Leeds this season.

“He is still young and is improving all the time. His uncle and cousins are West Ham United season ticket holders.

“We had planned to sign him in the Summer, but we were forced to move sooner as it was clear that Everton had agreed terms with Leeds to sign him.”
