A shirt to be proud of

Sir Trevor Brooking paid a surprise visit to the Hammers Supporters' Club last week
Our result against Leicester in the first home game of the new Premier League season might have been forgettable, but the match will forever be remembered for a selection of loyal and dedicated Hammers fans.

Principal sponsors Betway wanted to celebrate the launch of the new West Ham home shirt - and the club’s final season at the Boleyn Ground - with you, the fans.

So prior to last Saturday’s game, they enlisted the help of one of our most-famous sons - the legendary Sir Trevor Brooking - and made a surprise visit to the Hammers Social Club, which is nestled only a matter of metres away from the famous old stadium that we will be vacating at the season’s end.

Sir Trevor was greeted with a spontaneous, rapturous and well-deserved applause upon walking through the door. It was a wonderful and moving moment which emphasised the impact the man has had on so many people.

Once the ovation quietened, the former No. 10 made his way around the club and handed out our new home shirt - which he also signed - to some of the club’s most-deserving supporters. The amount of time that Sir Trevor spent with fans of all ages showed just how much those same people mean to him.

Betway filmed the event and their #PrideInYourShirt video will be shown on the Boleyn Ground’s jumbo screen at half-time during the game against Bournemouth. The clip from the special day - in addition to interviews with coaching assistant Julian Dicks and manager Slaven Bilic - are available to view on the Betway Insider blog and Betway’s Twitter, YouTube and Facebook pages.

Our sponsors were honoured to spend time with those supporters who have been closely associated with West Ham for many years. It is a shirt - and club - to be proud of.
