Dream day for lifelong Hammer

Ahead of Sunday’s Betway Cup clash with Werder Bremen, our principal sponsors challenged fans to prove they had the best West Ham memorabilia among their fellow supporters by sending in photos of their coveted possessions to @Betway on Twitter.

The prize for the winner? A chance to watch the match from the Betway VIP Lounge (complete with a three-course dinner and drinks on the house), the opportunity to meet the players as well as present the trophy to the winning team at full time.

Needless to say, the Betway Twitter page was quickly inundated with entries from Hammers fans showing off their wide range of collectables.

From vast shirt ensembles and vintage programmes, to rare scarves, pin collections and signed photos – there was quite a selection to choose from.

In fact, picking a winner from the bunch was so difficult, the Betway team just couldn’t decide on their own.

So they put it to the vote of the supporters – who duly chose fan Chas Baxter’s fantastic Bobby Moore ‘Keymen’ statue, a treasure he’d held for over 45 years.

On the day, unfortunately, it would be the Werder Bremen side Chas would award the trophy to as the German visitors secured a 2-1 victory.

However, it was a memorable day nonetheless for the lifelong West Ham fan, as he met the team and presented goalscorer Diafra Sakho with the man of the match trophy.

And even more poignant for Chas, the occasion marked 15 years since he proposed to his wife Andria, right here on the pitch at Upton Park.

There were also surprises in store for other fans around the ground, as Betway provided brand new shirts for the players to hand out to the crowd prior to kick-off.
