Nayef Aguerd in the No5 shirt

Aguerd switches squad number

West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd will wear a new squad number in 2025/26.

The Morocco international will switch to the No5 shirt, having previously worn No27 since joining the Hammers from Stade Rennais in June 2022.

Previous occupants of the No5 during the Premier League era include Anton Ferdinand, James Tomkins and Pablo Zabaleta, while Vladimír Coufal - who left the Club at the end of last month - wore it most recently, between 2020 and 2025.

Aguerd joins teammates Maximilian Kilman, Ollie Scarles and Freddie Potts in choosing a new number for the fresh campaign, and he will be hoping to play a key role back in east London after making 36 appearances on loan at Spanish La Liga side Real Sociedad in 2024/25.

Following a strong showing in the second half of West Ham’s 3-1 win over Grasshopper Club Zürich on Saturday, the 29-year-old is part of the squad that arrived in the United States on Wednesday for matches against Manchester United, Everton and AFC Bournemouth, as part of the Premier League Summer Series.

Graham Potter’s men will then face off against French top-flight outfit LOSC Lille at London Stadium on Saturday 9 August, ahead of the Premier League kick-off away at Sunderland a week later.
