The West Ham squad celebrates

West Ham United’s 2021/22 Fantasy Premier League review!

There’s no doubting West Ham United’s progression over the course of the last 12 months, from European hopefuls to one of this season’s heavy-hitters on the continent.

Victories over Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City in domestic competition, plus a stupendous run to the UEFA Europa League semi-finals, have confirmed the Irons’ status as a team now capable of challenging consistently at the highest level.

And that progression has certainly been reflected in Fantasy Premier League terms!

Having picked up 1,380 points in total over 2019/20, West Ham players – have followed up last year's total of 1,686 points with 1,613 points on the pitch over the course of 2021/22.

And there’s also been a Club-record breaking season for one Hammer in FPL terms, with some outstanding numbers seeing them ranked the fourth-highest scoring player in the Premier League!

Without any further ado, then, let’s dive right in and take a look at West Ham United’s top-scoring FPL players of 2021/22…

Honourable mentions

Cresswell Soucek

A remarkable seven Hammers enjoyed triple-digit points hauls in 2021/22 – a total bettered by only six other Premier League teams – with Aaron Cresswell and Tomáš Souček the unfortunate duo missing out on our top-five list this season.

The competition was fierce for the duo, with Cresswell (valued in-game at £5.4m, with four assists and 17 bonus points over the season) still impressing in finishing the season as the 21st-best defender in the Premier League, collecting 115 points.

Souček, meanwhile, scored five times, attained 14 bonus points, and recorded an impressive overall total of 114 points to reward the managers who selected him at a good-value £5.7m.

5. Pablo Fornals

Pablo Fornals

2021/22 Points: 117 / 2020/21 Points: 125
Teams Selected By: 1.3%
Best Game: 12 points vs Liverpool (3-2W, 7 November): 1 goal, 1 assist, 2 bonus points

Whenever you watch a West Ham United goals compilation, make a mental note of how many goals Pablo Fornals plays a part in.

Often the source of an incisive key pass early in the build-up to a move, although that does not necessarily translate directly into FPL points, the Spaniard has been a quietly influential and consistent performer in Claret & Blue this season.

Fornals has similarly been a consistent FPL points provider this season, with six goals and four assists spaced throughout the campaign, the latter most often stemming from his set-piece deliveries.

And then, of course, there was his attacking midfield masterclass to inflict a first defeat of the season upon Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool... "West Ham are massive" indeed.

4. Łukasz Fabiański

Lukasz Fabianski

2021/22 Points: 136 / 2020/21 Points: 133
Teams Selected By: 2.8%
Best Game: 11 points vs Arsenal (0-2L, 15 December; 1 penalty save, 6 saves, 3 bonus points) & 11 points vs Chelsea (0-1L, 24 April; 1 penalty save, 4 saves, 3 bonus points)

Seldom few sets of supporters can surely feel as confident in their goalkeeper when a penalty kick is awarded against them – but Łukasz Fabiański’s recent record for West Ham has been impressive.

The Polish shot-stopper’s three penalty saves this season from five kicks faced in the Premier League – not including a miss from Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet – contributes to an overall record of six penalties repelled over the last three campaigns.

And a grand total of 114 saves – 12 more than last season - yielded eight clean sheets and nine bonus points, demonstrating that Fabiański has proven equally difficult for opposition strikers to beat from 12 yards this season - and beyond.

3. Saïd Benrahma

Said Benrahma

2021/22 Points: 138 / 2020/21 Points: 73
Teams Selected By: 10.7%
Best Game: 16 points vs Norwich City (4-0W, 8 May): 2 goals, 1 clean sheet, 3 bonus points

Our Algerian maestro made a sensational start to his second season in top-flight English football, picking up a goal and an assist in both of our opening two matches of the campaign in 4-2 and 4-1 wins over Newcastle United and Leicester City respectively.

And, while his FPL points returns dipped in the latter half of the campaign, Benrahma remained the 18th-best performing Midfielder in the Premier League, valued in-game at a bargain £5.9m and selected by over three million managers at peak.

Indeed, the No22 was included in the top-scoring players in his position in an individual round – the FPL ‘Dream Team’ – on no fewer than four occasions, a record bettered in his position by only six Midfielders.

Benrahma also produced five double-digit hauls in his matches, ending the season with a solid eight goals, six assists and 15 bonus points, as well as a much-improved points total over his first campaign.

2. Michail Antonio

Michail Antonio

2021/22 Points: 140 / 2020/21 Points: 118
Teams Selected By: 24.3%
Best Game: 16 points vs Leicester City (4-0W, 23 August): 2 goals, 1 assist, 3 bonus points

Well and truly stepping up to the No9 shirt to terrorise Premier League defences, FPL statistics suggest that Michail Antonio has been the third-most creative Forward in the top-flight this season, as well as providing the fifth-most Threat and sixth-most Influence.

The fourth-highest scoring Forward in FPL overall, Antonio’s impressive all-round play saw him selected by the highest percentage of managers of any West Ham player, and also become the most-selected Forward player in the game, with 24.3 per cent of managers investing in him.

Ten goals, ten assists and returns in the final three games of the season – as well as a sensational start to the campaign, with eight goal involvements in our opening three games of the season – all combine to produce an impressive total of 140 points for Antonio, who continues to grow as a striker season-by-season.

1. Jarrod Bowen

Jarrod Bowen

2021/22 Points: 206 / 2020/21 Points: 141
Teams Selected By: 15.0%
Best Game: 16 points vs Norwich City (2-0W, 12 January): 2 goals, 1 clean sheet, 3 bonus points

There could only be one player top of this list!

Bowen’s second full season at West Ham United has been nothing short of sensational.

The No20 scored a Club-record 206 FPL points, surpassing evey other West Ham player in FPL history, the nearest runner-up being Dimitri Payet’s 171 in 2015/16.

Classed as a Midfielder, Bowen's 12 goals and 17 assists - plus an impressive haul of 24 bonus points – sees him rank as the fourth-highest scoring player, and third-best scoring Midfielder, in the Premier League this season, behind only Liverpool duo Mo Salah (265 points) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (208) and Tottenham Hotspur's Heung-Min Son (258).

What’s more, Bowen’s consistency this season is reflected in nine double-digit hauls from Bowen, matched by six ‘Dream Team’ inclusions – only four other players can boast more.

Available, somehow, at just £6.9m – a significant rise from his season-starting £6.5m – and selected by just 15 per cent of FPL managers, Bowen’s status as the ultimate ‘Differential’ player in FPL this season is confirmed by the fact that only Liverpool’s Joel Matip has returned more points per million spent (Bowen offering 29.9) in FPL this season.

England’s newest international is also FPL’s latest breakout star – and he only seems to be getting better!
