Starting XI | Denton set for 50th Hammers WSL appearance

West Ham United women’s team manager Rehanne Skinner has named an unchanged side to face Manchester City in the Barclays Women’s Super League on Saturday.

After nearly a three-week break away from action, the Hammers travel to the Joie Stadium looking to record our first league victory of the season.

No changes to the starting XI that faced London City Lionesses last time out means Anouk Denton is set to make her 50th WSL appearance for the Club, which continues a week full of milestones for our No18 after she was called up to England’s senior squad for the first time on Monday.

There is an alteration on the substitutes bench however, as Inès Belloumou returns from suspension and comes into the matchday squad in place of Seraina Piubel, who has picked up a knock.

So, Kinga Szemik, who kept a clean sheet for Poland against the Netherlands during the international break, starts in between the sticks and will be supported by a backline of Yu Endo, Amber Tysiak, Shelina Zadorsky and Denton.

Oona Siren and Katrina Gorry, who were in action for Finland and Australia respectively during the international window, start in midfield, and they will look to support the attack containing Ffion Morgan, Viviane Asseyi, Riko Ueki and Shekiera Martinez.

As well as Belloumou, Skinner has eight other substitutes to call upon at Joie Stadium. Megan Walsh is the goalkeeping alternative, whilst the defenders on the bench are Belloumou, Eva Nyström and Verena Hanshaw.

Midfielders Anna Csiki, Sarah Brasero and Halle Houssein are also among the substitutes, and Skinner’s attacking options on the bench are Leila Wandeler and Manuela Paví. The latter scored a stoppage-time equaliser the last time we faced the Citizens, producing a well-taken, curling finish at Chigwell Construction Stadium in March.
