The project aims to promote health and wellbeing opportunities across the community and fan base (AOI/Pride of Irons/Inclusive irons/Disability network) through accessible and inclusive physical activity sessions with a focus on walking sports sessions (football and basketball). Participants can access two to three sessions for free and then will subscribe to the service for a monthly fee, which will include access to all the walking sports sessions and a monthly newsletter
When it is running and where
The project delivers multiple sessions across several locations in east London.
Four Walking football sessions/week currently running in Newham at Flanders Field, Memorial Ground, and The Foundry.
•Mon 10-11am Men's Walking Football at Memorial Ground
•Thurs Mixed 60+ Walking Football at 3-4pm at the Foundry
• Thurs Women's Walking Football at 7.30-9pm at the Foundry
• Sat 10-11am Mixed Walking Football at Flanders Field
• Sat 11-12pm Walking Basketball at The Globe, Beckton.
Who is it targeting
Adults 18+ and older adults 60+
Why it will benefit them
The sessions will help to promote the physical and mental health and wellbeing of the participants, as well as help to reduce social isolation and create volunteering opportunities
