A social inclusion programme established initially in partnership with Friends of the Elderly in 2015, and supported by The Mercers’ Company in 2018, the Any Old Irons warmly welcomes Hammers fans aged 65 and over to take part in a variety of activities aimed at fostering a sense of belonging and connection.
Alfie, a member since 2019, said: “When I lost my wife, someone told me to come along and join the Any Old Irons. Once I joined, it was like a massive happy family. Everybody knew everyone and everyone got along. It was great from the first day, you were made to feel very welcome.”
Doreen, a member since 2021, said: “I lost my husband during the pandemic and I needed something to grab onto, so joining Any Old Irons has been life saving for me. Although we’re all passionate West Ham fans, it’s great to meet people and hear them talking not only about the football, but also their grandchildren and their holidays.”
