The project works in partnership with local authorities delivering qualifications to local residents, universities targeting sports science degree students and youth football clubs aiming to apply for FA Charter Standard.
FA Level 1 Coaching Certificate
This 30-hour course represents an introduction to football coaching and includes both practical and theoretical elements.
Who can apply
Anybody over 16 years of age
Course Content
Practical:
Candidates are shown practical demostrations and then one of 20 topics will be distributed. The 20-minute external practical assessment at Level 1 requires candidates to be able to set up safe practices using realistic numbers and space. There is no requirement for the student to make any coaching interventions to convey technical coaching points, instead the candidate is expected to facilitate the session introducing progressions at the right time and ensuring that the session is appropriately organised, safe, fun and enjoyable.

Theory:
In addition to the practical component, students are required to complete theoretical elements including Soccer Parent, Laws of the Game, Football Administration and Player and Coach Development. In order to check their understanding of these components, students have to undertake a multiple-choice answer awareness test.

FA Child Protection and Best Practice Workshop:
This three-hour workshop covers areas such as identifying what constitutes abuse, recognising the signs and symptoms of abuse, identifying how to respond to disclosures, taking appropriate action if abuse is suspected and recognising best practice in protecting children from abuse.
Emergency Aid Workshop:
This three-hour workshop is to train candidates in resuscitation and life-saving skills.
FA Level 2 Coaching Certificate
This 90-hour course is divided into two parts - initial training and external assessment.
Who can apply
This course is intended for people over 17 years of age. It is advisable that the candidate should have the Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football and at least two years experience of coaching children or adults.
Course Content
Practical:
The practical element of the course consists of a 'themed practice' which will include a basic technique such as passing, ball control, running with the ball, turning etc. This is then progressed into a skill session and then further progressed into 4v4 small sided game. This is all part of a 35-minute assessment.

Theory:
In addition to the practical component of the course the theory element of the course consists of the learning and coaching process. This covers planning, preparing and evaluating coaching sessions, football fitness, football food, emergency aid, overuse injury, health and safety, growing-up youngsters in football, laws of the game, attitudes and ethics.

Practical and Theory Continuation Days:
Support days are organised for development of individual action plans. This will allow the tutor to review candidate portfolios ensuring that home study tasks are complete and necessary support is provided for their practical session.

Candidates are expected to have completed the Child Protection module Children Ensuring Safety in Football and the Emergency Aid module either before the course of training or before the final assessment.
