Konchesky: The girls were fantastic today

Paul Konchesky suggested that his West Ham United Women’s side deserved three points in Saturday's 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.

The visitors took the lead against the run of play when Bethany England headed the ball into the bottom left corner after 20 minutes.

The West Ham response was impeccable though, and Konchesky’s side had the lead before the interval after Emma Snerle’s clever finish and Kit Graham’s own goal.

England was on hand to secure her brace after the break and the points were shared in east London despite late chances for the Hammers.

Konchesky was delighted with his side’s impressive performance as well as the mentality demonstrated by the Hammers after falling behind.

I thought that my girls were fantastic right from the very start today.

Unfortunately we fell a goal behind, but we showed grit and it was fantastic to get two goals back before half-time.

We conceded again at the start of the second half but we had enough chances after that to win the game.

You could see how confident the players were after victory last week.

It’s a London derby, they are our rivals and if they’d beaten us today, they would have gone above us.

On the whole, we will take the point but we are gutted that we couldn’t get all three.

We showed great character when we went behind.

We could have gone under when we conceded that first goal but we didn’t. We showed our togetherness and big credit to the girls. They got the two goals that we deserved.

There have been lots of ups and downs this season.

We started the season fantastically but we fell off after Christmas. The girls deserve credit though because we stuck together.

We got what we deserved in the last two games of the season.

The fans have really stuck with us.

The fans have been massive for us. When you aren’t winning games it is easy for people to stay away from it.

They didn’t, they stayed with us and big credit to them. They turned out in their numbers again today and they got right behind the team.

Kate Longhurst has been fantastic for us.

She’s a really good role model for younger players and for older players. She knows what this club means to people and she knows what it means to wear the shirt.

She probably hasn’t played as much as she would’ve liked this season but she has been fantastic whenever she has been on the pitch and she has been fantastic off the pitch too. Every time she put the shirt on she gave it everything.
