Four West Ham United Women’s players were in action for their respective countries in recent days.

Dagný Brynjarsdóttir started for Iceland as they took on the Republic of Ireland in a friendly match on Friday 11 June.

Agla María Albertsdóttir and Alexandra Jóhannsdóttir gave the home side an early lead in the capital, Reykjavik, before the West Ham midfielder got on the scoresheet herself – as she fired home an effort that had deflected off the post.

Ireland did manage to pull two goals back in the match, but Brynjarsdottir and her team-mates hung on for the win. The two sides will meet again on 15 June.

Canada began their preparation for the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo with a friendly against the Czech Republic on Friday 11 June.

Adriana Leon started her first game since breaking her foot in March and managed 57 minutes against the Czechs, who were without Hammers midfielder Kateřina Svitková due to injury.

Canada dominated proceedings, but couldn’t break the deadlock, with the match finishing 0-0. They have one final friendly before the tournament kicks off – taking on Brazil on 14 June.

Tameka Yallop

Tameka Yallop and Mackenze Arnold both started for Australia, as they slipped to a 3-2 defeat to Denmark on Thursday 10 June.

Yallop, who was announced as West Ham United’s first signing of the summer in May, was making her first appearance for the Matildas since the Coronavirus pandemic began.

The Matildas will be hoping to pick up a more positive result when they take on Sweden in their final preparation match before the Olympics begin.
