Man City betting preview with Betway

Michail Antonio

The busy New Year period continues for West Ham United, with attentions turning to the FA Cup third round and a mouth-watering clash against Manchester City on Friday evening.

The Hammers enjoyed a memorable run in the competition last season, reaching the quarter finals before being agonisingly knocked out in a replay against eventual winners Manchester United.

And while West Ham come into this one as underdogs at 9/2, with City 8/13 to win and the draw at 10/3, the Hammers’ FA Cup history against Man City offers some encouragement.

The last three times West Ham have been drawn against Man City, the Hammers have progressed twice, with perhaps the most memorable meeting coming back in 2006, when Dean Ashton found the net twice en route to the final.

The last five clashes, in all competitions, between the pair have seen 16 goals scored, with last January’s 2-2 draw the most recent meeting on West Ham soil.

It’s 3/5 that both teams will score once again, and you can get West Ham to win with both sides finding the net at 7/1.

A repeat of that 2-2 scoreline is 11/1 on Betway’s ‘Correct Score’ market, with the ‘Over 2.5’ goals market currently priced at 11/20. ‘Under 2.5’ goals is 7/5.

A strong festive period has seen the Hammers move to within one point of the Premier League’s top ten, but with two disappointing results over the last two matchdays, boss Slaven Bilić will want an encouraging performance from his men this time out.

The Hammers have conceded three goals in their last five games, a figure that compares well with Man City, who have also conceded three times in the same period.

Statistically, the Hammers have performed better defensively in the first half of matches this season, with just a third of their total conceded goals coming in the first 45 minutes.

This suggests there could be good value in West Ham keeping a first half clean sheet at 11/8.

The Hammers are 11/2 to keep City at bay throughout the whole game, and it’s 12/5 for it to be a draw at half-time and either side to win the match.

2016 was a strong year in particular for Michail Antonio. His 15 league goals in the calendar year was the third-highest for a top-flight English player and only bettered by Jermain Defoe and Harry Kane.

Antonio’s 3/1 to find the net at any time against Man City and is priced at 9/1 to score the first of the game.

With the starting striker’s position up for grabs, Friday could also be a good opportunity for Andy Carroll to make his mark – the Hammers hitman is 9/4 to score anytime.

And if you think that this year could be West Ham’s year, you can get the Irons at 40/1 to lift the FA Cup.
