West Ham United 0-6 Liverpool

Bernardo Rosa went closest for the Hammers

West Ham United had an afternoon to forget on Saturday as they were beaten 6-0 by Liverpool in the U18 Premier League Cup.

The Merseysiders travelled down to east London on the same day as the first team, who take on Slaven Bilic’s men at 5:30pm at London Stadium.

Mark Phillips and Steve Potts’ men began slowly but grew into the game and had the first shot in anger after nine minutes. Dan Chesters, making his first start for the U18s, was teed up on the edge of the box but could only curl a foot over the crossbar.

The Reds broke the deadlock on the quarter of an hour mark. The Hammers’ trialist goalkeeper initially made a good save, however Glen McAuley was able to tap home the rebound.

It was two just 14 minutes later, when this time Rafael Camacho was the scorer. The winger, played through by quick-thinking left-back Edward Tagsety, checked back onto his right foot and curled into the far corner.

The Hammers were still in the game, however, and had the chance to half the deficit moments later when Bernardo Rosa’s corner was whipped in towards Emmanuel Longelo, but the forward failed to make contact.

And Steven Gerrard’s men punished West Ham with ten minutes remaining in the first half, as the visitors’ well-worked corner resulted in a tap-in for defender Tom Clayton.

After the break, things went from bad to worse for the hosts when Camacho bagged his second with a well-placed free-kick from 20 yards. It was well and truly game over three minutes later when Curtis Jones found the net from McAuley’s centre. A sixth for Liverpool came on 73 minutes, as substitute Liam Millar fired in at the near post having gone past Jeremy Ngakia.

The Hammers’ best chance of the game, though the game was already out of reach, came with 12 minutes remaining on the clock when Rosa (pictured) was slipped through, but the Brazilian’s effort was blocked by the keeper.
