A versatile and all-action midfield player capable of filling a variety of positions, Gary O'Neil joined West Ham United on a two-and-a-half year contract from Middlesbrough on 25 January 2011.
After starting his career with Portsmouth, O'Neil made more than 200 appearances for Pompey before joining Middlesbrough for a reported £5m on 31 August 2007.
The former England Under-21 international spent three-and-a-half seasons at the Riverside Stadium before moving to east London for an undisclosed fee.
2012/13
Started the Capital One Cup ties against Crewe Alexandra and Wigan Athletic...Made his first Barclays Premier League appearance of the season as a substitute in the 4-1 home win over Southampton on 20 October 2012...Brought into the starting XI in February, filling a defensive midfield role vacated by the injured Mark Noble...Scored his maiden goal at the Boleyn Ground for West Ham United with a fine curler in the 3-1 Barclays Premier League win over West Bromwich Albion on 30 March 2013.
