Walsall 2-3 West Ham United
FA Cup third round
6 January 2001
The Hammers survived a scare at Division Two side Walsall to book their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup on this day 14 years ago.
Having already met - and prevailed by a 2-1 aggregate scoreline - in the League Cup that season, the Hammers again edged through against the Saddlers.
9,402 packed into the Bescot Stadium, and all appeared to be going to plan when Frank Lampard scored after six minutes.
But Walsall drew level through Darren Wrack on 33 minutes, leaving the score at 1-1 at the break.
Freddie Kanoute's double, on 57 and 81 minutes, gave West Ham breathing space, and although Brett Angell pulled one back late on, West Ham had enough to progress.
Harry Redknapp's side would go on to reach the quarter-finals that season, bowing out to Tottenham Hotspur.
