West Ham United winger Stewart Downing is today celebrating his 30th birthday.

The 34-cap England man is about to start his second season at the Boleyn Ground, following his summer 2013 move from Liverpool.

The 2013/14 campaign yielded 32 Barclays Premier League appearances and one goal for Downing - a free-kick in the final home game of the season against Tottenham Hotspur.

Born in Middlesbrough, he made his name at his home town club, playing 181 league games, winning the League Cup in 2004 and reaching the UEFA Cup final two years later.

He moved to Aston Villa in 2009 and transferred to Liverpool in 2011, picking up a second League Cup winners medal - and Man of the Match award for the final - in his first season with the Reds.

Downing continued to feature regularly for Liverpool in 2012/13, but moved onto the Hammers at the end of the campaign and debuted in the opening day victory over Cardiff City.

Internationally, Downing has won 34 caps for England and travelled to the 2006 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2012.
