Classic match

South Africa 2-1 Colombia
International Match
27 May 2010

Benni McCarthy became the first West Ham United player to represent South Africa when he came off the bench in their 2-1 win over Colombia four years ago today.

The Bafana Bafana were preparing to host the FIFA World Cup the following month when they welcomed their South American opponents, and it was the home support who would be happier at the end of the 90 minutes.

It was a game of three penalties, with successful conversions from Teko Modise and Katlego Mphela cancelling our Giovanni Moreno's spot kick leveller,

McCarthy, who played eleven league games for the Hammers, won 80 caps for his country in a distinguished career, but missed out on final selection for that year's World Cup.
