West Ham United Ladies suffered a narrow 1-0 FA Women's Premier League Southern Division defeat at home to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.

Tammy Waine's strike 21 minutes from time was enough to secure the points for the Seagulls and lift them above the Hammers in the league table.

Former Hammers stopper Toni-Anne Wayne denied Stacey Little as the home side made a strong start, and Wayne was called into action again to deny Cherrelle Albert when through on goal.

Albert was a threat for West Ham throughout and Cally Beaumont made a super sliding block to prevent her from opening the scoring.

Brighton grew into the contest as it wore on, with Lucy Somes and Waine both firing wide at the start of the second period.

The deadlock was broken with 69 minutes played when Albion skipper Waine drilled into the bottom corner.

West Ham looked to respond but could not find a leveller as Brighton took the points back to the south coast.
