Classic match

West Ham United 2-1 Blackburn Rovers
Premier League
29 January 2003

A first home win of the 2002/03 season finally arrived after a late goal from Jermain Defoe saw an end to a 14-game winless run in the Premier League.

The striker jumped off the bench to net an 89th minute winner as the Hammers recovered from a goal down to banish thoughts of a 6-0 FA Cup defeat to Manchester United in their last outing.

Dwight Yorke had put Rovers ahead after 38 minutes, but mercurial Italian Paolo Di Canio led a second half revival, which included the equaliser with just under an hour played, to see the home side to victory.
