Manchester United 0-1 West Ham United
FA Cup round four
28 January 2001
Erratic goalkeeper Fabian Barthez played villain as Paolo Di Canio enhanced his hero status with the only goal to send West Ham to a famous win over Manchester United in the FA Cup.
With the scores still level after 76 minutes, Di Canio raced onto Frederic Kanoute's through ball and slotted the ball past Barthez whilst the Frenchman appealed in vain for an offside flag.
Sir Alex Ferguson threw caution to the wind after the Hammers took the lead, finishing the game with four recognised strikers on the pitch, but they were unable to find a way past Shaka Hislop.
The win was West Ham's first at Old Trafford since 1986 and earned the Club a fifth round tie with Sunderland, who they beat, before exiting the competition to London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the sixth round.
